Practicing presence with our children

Have you ever gone to bed and thought, man I should have slowed down and been more present today? The days seem to just fly by with all the business of life. We blink and our kids have grown another foot.

One thing I’ve learned is that by slowing down, I’m better able to open up communication with my kids; allowing them to share their perspectives, thoughts, dreams, and emotions. When we really listen to our kids we hear that they are funny, wise, insightful, compassionate, silly, happy, or sad.

Here are 10 easy ways you can enjoy your child and feel like you didn’t miss out on the best parts of their littlest years.

🤍 Draw an outline of your hand. Then lay their hand inside the outline of your hand and trace their hand.

🤍 Have a staring contest with them. Tell them you have to keep a straight face with absolutely no laughing.

🤍 Turn on some music and ask them to teach you some dance moves.

🤍 Interview them. Get your camera rolling. Sit them down in a chair and ask them about the world.
