Reducing Screen-Time
Let’s be honest, we ALL have addictive traits related to our smartphones.
These devices were designed to keep us engaged while our brains feed off the quick dopamine hits we receive.
We know the effects, but we continue to watch our kids get sucked into this addictive behavior as well. How can we make a shift?
How to reduce screen time at home….
✨Keep them busy.
✨Kids don’t do what we say, they do what we do; model healthy electronic use.
✨Encourage daily “screen-free” times, by offering alternative things to do together, (play or activities)
✨Turn off your own screens when they are not in use and store somewhere out of sight and out of mind.
✨Don’t allow screen time in your daily commute! Let your kids take turns playing dj and sing some songs together. Take this time to connect and let your child observe the world through the windows; peeking their imagination and inquisition.
✨Draw a line between screen time and bedtime
Bonus tip: Focus on the activity that comes after the screentime so that your child isn’t getting more and more wound up: e.g. 5 minutes until we’re going to the park!
